Answering The Call

What We Do

The Thunder Bay Professional Fire Fighters Association proudly serves the fire fighters, fire prevention, training, administration and mechanical members of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.

The association represents over over 205 dedicated Thunder Bay Firefighters and members.

Fire, yes! But our members are also trained to respond to auto extrication, hazardous material spills, industrial accidents, tiered medical response, high/low angle rescue, ice & water rescue, confined space rescue, fire & safety inspections and public service calls. Our membership responds to over 9300 calls per year.

Rescue Stories

Many people’s lives are impacted by the work of the Thunder Bay Professional Fire Fighters Association members. They have quite the rescue stories to share.

Every rescue is different with unique challenges and circumstances. Miranda and her pup Kai found themselves in a very dangerous situation while at an off-leash dog trail at Centennial Park. Our members responded to the call, using a Rapid Deployment Craft up against the rushing Current River. Timing and training meant everything in this water rescue.

Response Times Matter

Carley Kostyshyn woke up one morning to find here entire basement up in flames. After calling 911, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded in three minutes and were able to use a large extinguisher to get the fire out. The fire station was close to her home. A fire can double in size every 30 seconds, response times matter.
